How to claim your AREX ticket from the Klook App

First time in Seoul, South Korea? You should know AREX!

Yes, the AREX ticket that you can book from Klook is legit. Trust me, it’s not complicated. Here are the benefits if you book from Klook:

(1) It saves you time. If you want to avoid the long queue, especially during peak hours, it’s nice if you’ve already pre-booked your ticket. Keep reading if you want to know why.

(2) It’s cheaper. When I booked mine, the amount was Php 312 compared to when I bought it straight from AREX or Express Ticket Orange Kiosk which was 9,500 KWON (Php 406).

Though instructions are in the app, I still had to pull a customer representative ahead of my trip since I was stuck in the payment method somewhere in the process. I wondered why it was asking me for payment when I had already paid via Klook. (Obviously, I didn’t check the other option)

This step-by-step process will (hopefully) save you some time or avoid the mistakes I did.

Step 1: (Of course) Go to the Klook App and type AREX.

There are options that have WIFI bundles and the like. I chose the one-way ticket since I already had my travel WIFI (thanks to Globe Roaming). Take note that seat reservation is made through the AREX Website only. When you purchase from KLOOK, you will only receive a Voucher number (via email or upon purchase in the app). It is NOT your AREX Ticket yet. The voucher has to be redeemed from the AREX Website.

Again, the voucher slip is NOT your AREX Ticket.

Your voucher should look like the image below. I intentionally blurred some items in orange for privacy purposes.

As you can see there’s a note clipboard beside the 13-digit voucher number, if you click it, it copies your voucher code. This will make it easier for you to paste it later when you go to the payment stage.

Step 2: Redeem your voucher and reserve your seats from the AREX Website

You can do this using your mobile phone or desktop. Click “English” to change the language.

Choose your departure station: Incheon Terminal 1 or 2. Departure station can also be Seoul Station if you’re leaving South Korea.

I suggest you set your AREX departure time four hours before your flight counter opens. For example, if my flight is at 1 PM, my counter opens at 10 AM. To arrive at 10 AM, my departure schedule should be at least on or before 9 AM. AREX from Seoul Station to Incheon usually takes 40 minutes. It’s my first time so I was a bit paranoid so I scheduled early. (You can check your departure schedule here. This also contains details of your Check Counter and number. Incheon Airport usually opens its counter 3 hours before flight time. It’s also better if you check your departure schedule from this website since not all gate and/or counter numbers are posted on the flight guide screen. Knowing your counter number will help you which way to take going to your counter/gate.)

The train schedule looks like the one below:

After reserving your train number, the portal will lead you to a prompt asking you if it’s a member or non-member purchase. I selected non-member, provided my email, and created my AREX 6-digit password. You will receive your assigned train (A1048), car number (5 CAR), and seat number (6A). (See image below.)

You can change seats if you want to. Click on the “Change Seats” button at the upper right.

Step 3: Pay using the Voucher code from Klook at the AREX Website

The next step will lead you to the payment stage and this is where you’ll redeem your 13-digit voucher number.

On mobile, this is what the payment stage looks like. Click “Select Discounts” and pay using “Voucher”. See the images below.

Click Select Discounts. If you click “payment”, it will direct you to credit card payment. Travelers who book directly on AREX choose this option.

Once you tick “Voucher,” a text box will appear where you’ll encode the 13-digit voucher that you got from Klook.

A confirmation notice will prompt the screen; you can click “My Tickets” to screenshot your QR Ticket. It should look like the image below. I intentionally blocked some details in the photo. The ticket example was a ticket I purchased when I headed back to Incheon that’s why the departure area was Seoul Station.

Note that this QR ticket was redeemed already.

A quick tip: This is how you spot your car number and seat. Line up where your assignment is. Outside the platform doors, there’s a schedule so you can check yours! The photo on the right (or below if you’re using a mobile while reading this) is how you spot your seat number (12D / 12C) inside the train. It’s too small. I missed it the first time!

Step 4: Scan your QR Ticket at AREX Station

You may directly scan your mobile (screenshot) QR ticket on the Express Ticket barrier scanner. It’s exactly as it is in the step-by-step guide below. Take note that you will scan again as you exit. No hiccup on my end and it beeped perfectly fine.

That’s it. You’re now ready to enjoy sightseeing while seated on the train! It’s also not intimidating to purchase your ticket onsite at the Express (orange) kiosk. I also tried purchasing my ticket using the Express kiosk since I arrived at Seoul Station so early so I re-booked my ticket (earlier time) using my credit card as payment method.

The photo on the left (if you’re reading on a desktop) or above (If you’re using a mobile) is the orange express ticket kiosk; the photo on the right (if you’re reading on a desktop) or below (if you’re on mobile) is the sample printed ticket. Do not lose this until you exit the train.
