One year down, one more to go. This time last year BIGHIT Music announced BTS’ mandatory military service, starting with Jin. All I have to say is that - we survived a year.
Where was I when the notice was dropped? I was in a meeting in Makati when my friend Jamie sent me the Weverse Notice with a crying emoji. I had to step out of the table to collect my thoughts together. We knew it was bound to happen, but at some point, we hoped it wouldn’t. But it did happen.
What were my thoughts when it happened? I was sad as someone who just entered the fandom, enjoying the heights of their wins, content, and live performances in real time. A devastating thought is that I have to wait 3 more years to watch them in a concert. But I know it will pass by soon (would you believe, COVID was 3 years ago??). It’s also nice to feel the ground at some point having been on the clouds for quite some time. It’s a needed season for ARMY and BTS. If you know what I mean.
What are your thoughts after a year? Nothing changes. My anxiety was replaced by excitement. Especially, learning how Jin and JHOPE do well in the military today. I thought others would swing to other circles — which is fine, you do you. But it’s nice to see, that just like me, we are all waiting.
Career-wise, it’s refreshing to see them on a break. But the biggest gain this season is witnessing their individuality as musicians and the learnings from growing as a member of BTS.
Growth is necessary; uncomfortable but worth it. I see the value of this now.
It was not a dry season, actually. We still enjoy a piece of them every day. But how we miss seeing them together on stage, as one whole puzzle. They shine bright as solos but they shine brighter as a group. ☺️
We have 4 more send-offs this year, or probably in 2024. But let’s not forget the thrill of welcoming two of them back next year.
And as the days go by, there will be no more send-offs, only a comeback. And it’s gonna be a powerful comeback. Wait for it. 2025.
